What to do in Central Florida

Florida is the sunshine state indeed. I visited in early December, the weather was amazing. It was chillier at night, but during the day it was warm in the 70’s.

We spent the weekend exploring and had so much! If you’re going to be in Central Florida and want to look for things to do (that’s not Disney or Hollywood Studios) here are some things to do.

THINGS TO DO

Farmer’s Market:

I love going to local farmer’s market. It’s a great way to support the local businesses and artisans. I think it’s also just fun to look around and see all that’s available.

For any town you visit, definitely check to see if they have a farmer’s market.

Bok Tower Gardens:

Bok Tower Gardens is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Central Florida! It has a 205-foot Singing Tower, acres of landscaped gardens, a historical museum, a fun children’s garden and so much to see! There’s also a beautiful gift shop and a Café where you can have lunch.

Bok Tower Gardens is also part of a plant conservation program, which I think is amazing. You can read more about it on their website.

There’s an admission fee collected at the door, and a parking lot by the visitor center.

If you’re ever in the area, highly recommend visiting this beauty!

Bonnet Springs Park:

A 168-acre park just outside of Lakeland, FL, they had their grand opening in October 2022.

Bonnet Springs is a repurpose railyard. It’s FREE admission and great for ALL ages! There are a variety of exhibits to see, playgrounds for kids along with a children’s museum. There’s a lot of beautiful buildings and nature to see.

There is a tram available that drives around the park if you don’t want to walk. The different buildings are also available to rent. They have a cafeteria style eating area with food and ice cream. I especially loved the butterfly sanctuary and the boathouse.

It’s totally worth checking out! Bonnet Springs Park is a beauty.

You-Pick Tangerine:

If you drive around in Florida, it won’t take long for you to notice the different citrus farms and trees. We decided to go to a tangerine farm and pick tangerines. It was my first time picking tangerines but it was so fun! Highly recommend if you’re in Florida or anywhere with you-pick farm.

Explore Downtown:

We explored downtown Lakeland. I love shopping through the local stores downtown. Many of them were super unique.

PLACES TO EAT

Born & Bread Bakehouse:

Known for their cruffins and this bakery is delicious! It’s only open Wednesday and Saturday. I recommend pre-ordering. The place gets quite busy!

Nineteen61:

An upscale restaurant offering Latin American cuisine with a modern twist in downtown Lakeland. The food was delicious! Highly recommend dining here if you’re in the area.

K-Chicken & Grill KBBQ:

If you love Korean barbeque, definitely check out this place. The pricing was good and the food was delicious!

There’s so much you can do in Central Florida. I hope this list gives you some ideas! All in all, make sure to enjoy the sun and have fun!
