Favorite Everyday Closet Basics
It’s spring and that means spring cleaning! I’m in the process of downsizing my wardrobe. I don’t actually have a lot of clothes, but I think I can do fine with even less. Going through my clothes for the purpose of downsizing has really challenged me to keep clothes I actually wear and a lot of these pieces are basics.
Everyone has their own definitions of what “basics” look like in a wardrobe, but this is my take on it. Here are some of my favorite everyday closet basics.
Black Jeans:
I’m partial to black skinny jeans, but feel free to get any silhouette you prefer for your body type. Regardless of the shape, a pair of black jeans make a great staple in the a wardrobe. Black jeans can be paired with almost anything, and in an office setting it looks slightly more professional than a pair of blue jeans. Get a great pair of jeans that will last a long while and you’ll be pretty much set.
White Button Top:
A white button top is another staple because it works with jeans, slacks, suits, or skirts. It even works well under dresses or sweaters. It’s a versatile piece all around.
Blue Jeans:
A pair of blue jeans is another staple. It’s a casual piece of clothing that you can wear anywhere. It’s a very basic piece that I just think everyone should have.
Blazer:
The fastest way to elevate any outfit is to add a blazer. I personally love blazers. I think blazers are a staple because they can elevate any outfit, you can wear them in the office or out of the office. They work with many different body types. A blazer is versatile for many looks and many different occasions.
Little black dress:
I think a little black dress is a basic because you can wear it to any occasion. I like the versatility of a black dress. It’s also simple and effortless.
White Tee:
I think a plain white t-shirt is the most basic thing in a closet. It’s also one of the most versatile pieces in a wardrobe. You can wear it with a blazer, you can wear is casually with jeans—it’s definitely a must-have in my closet.
Black Turtleneck:
I like wearing my fitted black turtleneck in the winter or colder months. It layers great under a button up shirt, dresses, and blazers. It’s a top that is again versatile because you can dress it up or down. My turtlenecks are probably one of the most worn items in the closet. I’m also almost always cold, so I wear turtlenecks 3 seasons out of the 4.
Those are my some of my favorite everyday wardrobe basics for any closet. What are your basics?
